S.A.F.E. Studio's mission is to help clients heal by providing educational and therapeutic art programs to treat child and adult survivors, and those at-risk of abuse and trauma
Description:
The Studio offers a series of expressive art therapy programs designed to help children, teens, adult women and seniors. Through our groups, clients experience an environment in which art becomes an almost magical tool of healing. Most have long suffered unwarranted shame as well as physical and emotional pain. Their self-esteem is near the vanishing point. Their involvement with art - the feel of clay, the movement of a brush across paper - allows the world to go away for a while. Through their work, they achieve artistic success resulting in rising esteem and healing and the confidence to move ahead with their lives. For many it is the support and encouragement they need to meet the challenges of their lives.
History:
S.A.F.E. Studio was founded in 1996 by Ex. Director Deborah Moules to provide expressive art therapy for survivors, and those at risk, of domestic abuse. In 2001, the Board expanded the mission to include individuals affected by trauma. Each year we help over 200 women and children from North Shore communities to heal from the horrific abuse and trauma they have endured and to gain the skills they will need to lead productive lives. We are a small, grassroots, nonprofit organization with an annual budget of $158,000. We are currently supported by foundations, corporations, individuals, special events, fees and the North Shore United Way.
