The Chameleon Arts Ensemble works to produce the highest quality professional chamber music performances that further the art form through innovative concert programs, simultaneously enlightening, educating and entertaining our audience. In addition, we aim to infuse a sense of social responsibility in all that we do to make classical chamber music available and accessible to disadvantaged area residents and to enhance the cultural life of the Boston area.

Description:
Chameleon's activities lie in two main areas: the annual concert series and our outreach program called Chameleons in the Community. The 08-09 concert series consists of eight performances in downtown Boston. The concerts integrate old and new repertoire into unexpected chamber music programs that are themselves works of art. We draw those who love the adventure of music – classic and contemporary – and give them a multifaceted experience in an intimate environment, joining audience and musicians in an exuberant celebration of music.

Chameleons in the Community is an ongoing activity, intertwined with our musical activities, to increase the accessibility of classical music and to create connections between the arts and everyday life through our annual benefit concert, free ticket programs, and spring music education program

History:
Now entering its second decade of programming, the Chameleon Arts Ensemble has distinguished itself as one of the finest, most versatile chamber ensembles in Boston. Over the past ten years, Chameleon has produced more than 60 concerts, with 218 different works by 126 different composers, ranging from Beethoven to Bermel, Schubert to Schnittke, Mozart to Moravec. The Ensemble has received critical acclaim for its innovative concert programming and artistic philosophy: dynamic musical dialogues, integrating old and new repertoire into unexpected chamber music programs that are themselves works of art. The Boston Globe praised Artistic Director Deborah Boldin’s “discerning ears and cosmopolitan tastes” and hailed “Planning a good chamber music program is a delicate art unto itself, and few in town have mastered it as persuasively as the Chameleon Arts Ensemble.”

Through its outreach program, Chameleons in the Community, the Ensemble also places a premium on making classical music accessible and available to those who do not have the means to attend live concerts. In keeping with this conviction, over the past decade Chameleon has donated nearly a thousand free tickets to low-income constituents of local public service agencies. In 2004, the Ensemble expanded this outreach work with a music education program in collaboration with the Forest Hills Educational Trust. Since then, it has grown into annual spring events, which include a public family concert and series of concerts and workshops for students from the Boston Public Schools.
