Description:
Boston Medical Center provides a full spectrum of pediatric and adult care services, from primary and family medicine to advanced specialty care. With a 24 hour level 1 trauma center, our emergency department had 86,000 visits last year. US News and World Report recently ranked Boston Medical Center as one of the best hospitals in the nation in geriatrics, respiratory disorders, cardiology and heart surgery and rheumatology.

The Department of Volunteer Services places volunteers in more than 100 different settings in patient care, staff support, and hospitality positions in the Boston Medical Center and in selected Boston Public Health Commission programs.

History:
Boston Medical Center came into existence in 1996 with the merger of Boston City Hospital, Boston University Hospital and Boston Specialty and Rehabilitation Hospital. It is the principal teaching affiliate of the Boston University School of Medicine.
