The YWCA vision of Peace, Justice, Freedom and Dignity for all people sets the foundation for the implementation of services in support of the agency mission of eliminating racism and empowering women. The mission of the YWCA Malden is the economic empowerment of women and girls, the celebration of diversity and the active participation in community.
Description:
Services include an affordable international housing program for single working women; an economic literacy networking system for entrepreneurial immigrant women; free health services for uninsured women; non-traditional career exploration and leadership development for adolescent girls; and after school care and academic enrichment services for boys and girls at multiple sites throughout the Malden community. Please visit the YWCA Malden website for program details: www.ywcamalden.org Program Highlights include: Channel Surfing for Middle School boys and Girls is an innovative youth enrichment program based on popular television show themes. Iron Chef, American Idol, Trading Spaces, and Making the Band are a few examples of projects designed to engage students while supporting social and academic growth. The Racial Equity Face Forward Project celebrates the Rich Diversity of Malden. Face Forward, a teen leadership project invites community-wide participation in the creation of a large-scale photo mosaic multi-cultural mural. Once completed, the mural will be displayed in public sites around Malden representing a unique and visible show of commitment for racial equity. TASK, Teen Advocates Sharing Knowledge, is another leadership development and community service project of the Teen Services Division of the YWCA. Teen leaders educate and inform children, other teens, and adults on cutting edge health issues like HIV/AIDS and Alcohol and Substance Abuse prevention.
History:
YWCA Malden Center for Women and Families has served Malden and the surrounding community since 1927 with strong and impactful services designed to empower women and their families. Nationally,YWCA Malden is one of 300 YWCA's across the country working collectively to improve the quality of life for women and girls through advocacy initiatives.
