The Toy Closets program provides new, age-appropriate and educational toys and gifts for pediatric patients at the Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. Toy Closets resources may also fund recreational and therapeutic play and other activities at the Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital.
Description:
The Toy Closets Program is a year-round project of the Yale-New Haven Hospital Auxiliary. This year, we received and distributed close to 15,000 toys and received over $12,000 in financial contributions. This past year, the Toy Closets Committee pledged $30,000 toward grant funding. We accept toys for children from newborn to 18 years of age. We cannot accept toy guns and other violent toys. Please visit our Website for a complete list of toy suggestions. www.ynhh.org/general/auxiliary/toy_closet.html
History:
The Yale-New Haven Hospital Auxiliary Toy Closets program was developed to provide new, age-appropriate and educational toys to pediatric patients at the Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. Founded in 1993 by Ann Nyberg, WTNH News Channel 8 anchorwoman, the Toy Closets help insure that pediatric patients come away from their hospitalization with a pleasant memory. The toys received by the Toy Closets program also are used as birthday presents, holiday gifts, treats for end-of-therapy, and other special occasions. Toys, gifts and financial contributions are needed throughout the year. The success of the Toy Closets program is directly related to community involvement. The Auxiliary encourages schools, organizations and business to make the program the recipient of their community-minded efforts.
