Interfaith Hospitality Network of Essex County, a volunteer-led non-profit organization, partners with religious congregations to shelter and support homeless families and help them gain self-sufficency.
Description:
Interfaith Hospitality Network of Essex county provides desperately needed food, shelter and compassionate support to homeless families with children. We are a volunteer-led, non-profit organization, whose main objective is to help families in need gain self-sufficiency. While helping to alleviate the crisis of homelessness. Tranportation is provided to and fronm host congrgation and the family center via an Interfaith Hospitality Network owned 15 passenger van. Staff and volunteers advocate for homeless families in the state. Turning pages, a reading program, addresses literacy. Family mentoring is provided to guide families to self-sufficiency, after they leave the Network.
History:
Interfaith Hospitality Network have provided service to the community since 1988. Support Services includes Family Intake, Assessment and Case Management provided by a Social Worker. Each year IHN provides an average of 20 families with meals, support services, shelter and companionship inside its affiliate church and synagogue buildings. Our work involves over 50 volunteers from Essex County each week, sheltering , nuturing, cooking and sharing with our families. Our Center is equipped with computers, phones, shower, kitchenette and living area.
