Last updated on December 9, 2008

The Partnership for the Homeless is committed to fostering a just society and creating lasting community change through the development of solution-oriented programs and policy initiatives that will eliminate the root causes of homelessness. The Partnership firmly believes that as a city and a nation we have both the know-how and the resources to end homelessness by 2020

Description:
The Partnership offers support to elderly homeless people, individuals affected by HIV and AIDS, and families moving from shelters into permanent housing. We offer a variety of services including housing assistance, substance abuse counseling, case management, meals, medical care, furniture, and job placement services.

History:
The Partnership for the Homeless began in 1982 with a single emergency shelter for men in the basement of a Greenwich Village church.

What many then thought was a temporary crisis has become a chronic social problem that affects increasing numbers of New Yorkers. For two decades, The Partnership has developed programs to meet the changing needs of homeless people in our city. Our outreach teams, social workers, case managers, housing specialists, job trainers, legal advocates, nutritionists, cooks and volunteers provide shelter and nourishment, services, skills, and ongoing support that enables thousands of people each year to navigate the difficult road from homelessness to permanent housing and greater independence.

Today, we operate an array of programs that address the complex needs of homeless New Yorkers.
