The Patient Care Volunteer is assigned to a patient and usually visits weekly, or as needed to provide companionship or to just be a presence in their home. Their "home" can also be a nursing home facility. The volunteer may also provide respite for the caregiver to take a break or run errands. To have patient contact the volunteer must go through a two day training course. A criminal records/driving check, TB test, interview, and a signed statement of confidentiality is also required. There are no limitations other than reliable transportation to be able to make it to the assignments.
