 LOCATION: Private home, retirement setting, or other facilities.
SUPERVISOR: Volunteer Programs Manager.
HOURS PER WEEK: One to two hours weekly (flexible).
QUALIFICATIONS: Friendly, patient; basic desire to help someone who is blind and homebound; non-judgmental attitude; dependability; respect for privacy and confidentiality.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Visits weekly to provide companionship and may include:
- conversation with individual
- reading the newspaper or other materials
- playing various games (for example, checkers or cards)
- answering letters
- other activities of mutual interest
Note: No household tasks are to be performed.
ORIENTATION/TRAINING: One-hour orientation to blindness, the services of the agency, and sighted guide (occasional continuing education programs available); communication with Volunteer Programs Manager.
COMMITMENT: One year.This opportunity is sponsored by: Board of Education and Services for the Blind

A. FROM THE SOUTH:
From I-91 North past Hartford:
Take Exit 34 (Route 159 Windsor/Wilson). At the end of the ramp, cross the street onto BESB's parking lot.
B. FROM THE NORTH:
From I-91 South:
Take Exit 34. At the end of the ramp, turn onto North Main Street (Hartford). Go under highway, past the light and the gas station; take a right onto BESB's parking lot.
From 291 West:
Take Exit 3 (Route 159 Windsor/Wilson). Turn left at second light. Proceed 3/4 mile. Turn left at light onto Windsor Avenue, just before bridge. First left is BESB parking lot.
C. FROM THE EAST:
From either 1-84 West or Route 2 West, proceed towards Hartford. Take the exit for I-91 North and follow the directions in "A" "FROM THE SOUTH."
D. FROM THE WEST:
Take I-84 East and proceed towards Hartford. Take the exit for I-91 North and follow the directions in "A" "FROM THE SOUTH."
