United Way of Central Indiana is focused on results - improving lives and shaping the community. That's what matters. To do this, it employs a full-range of strategies including: volunteerism, fund raising, program funding, collaboration, community research and planning, and public policy. Essentially, United Way performs the vital role of pulling the entire community together to focus on priorities and get maximum results. It serves Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion and Morgan counties.

Volunteer Center

The Volunteer Center is the catalyst that connects volunteers to opportunities in the community. People often want to make a difference in their community, but have questions about where help is needed or what skills they can contribute. The Volunteer Center answers those questions by providing information and education about the wide variety of avenues for people to volunteer. The Volunteer Center thrives at facilitating positive volunteer experiences because it is conscious of organizations' efforts and knows where volunteers fit best. The Volunteer Center is where the compassion of Central Indiana citizens successfully meets the needs of the community to bring about change.

UWCI encourages the community to become more engaged. The Volunteer Center is the core of UWCI's commitment to community volunteerism. The Volunteer Center is a resource for companies and organizations to match volunteer opportunities with employees' interests. The Volunteer Center educates the community on the importance of volunteerism and cultivates the volunteering experience that unites and strengthens Central Indiana.

The Volunteer Center also provides technical assistance to nonprofits in regards to volunteer recruitment, recognition and general volunteer management. The Volunteer Center coordinates Day of Caring (www.uwci.org/daycaring) and Youth Day of Caring (www.uwci.org/youth_caring) that are events that each draw over 2,000 volunteers to join forces and improve lives and the community. The Volunteer Improvement Program (V.I.P.) (www.uwci.org/vip) offers companies a way to build teamwork and build morale by volunteering on a project.

UWCI partners with many entities in its volunteerism efforts including: Indiana Commission on Community Service and Volunteerism (www.state.in.us/iccsv/), City of Indianapolis, Mayor"s Office (www.indygov.org/community.htm), Corporate Volunteer Council (www.cicvc.org), Indiana Association of Volunteer Centers, and Central Indiana Association of Volunteer Administrators.
