The Somerset County CA$H Program increases community awareness of and access to federal and state tax credits by providing free tax preparation to those who qualify. We also link them to community resources and programs that can help them make informed financial decisions throughout the year. This volunteer position will help individuals and families complete detailed IRS and coalition in-take forms then suggest other services that support their financial self-sufficiency (bank accounts, matched saving accounts, debt management, emergency food providers, etc.). We ask for a commitment of at least four sessions during the tax season. (Shifts are generally 3-4 hours.) Our season begins the last week of January and runs through April 15.
No experience is necessary. A mandatory training will be offered in January that will take approximately 1.5 hours. Volunteers for this position should feel comfortable asking personal questions and probing when necessary. They should also be good listeners.
