APW is a non-profit corporation, committed to combating the effects of the epidemic of AIDS in Worcester County by providing comprehensive services, including education, advocacy, and outreach. APW operates in affiliation with a wide range of community organizations, as well as with government agencies at the local, state and national levels.

Description:
APW provides services for people infected with and affected by HIV disease. Services provided are case management, transportation, housing, mental health, triage, nutrition, MSM (Men who have sex with Men), resource library, prevention and education, counseling and testing, peer support, youth services and the speakers bureau. Case management provides one on one or family advocacy, the nutrition program provides supplemental food for clients and their family, and our case managers assist clients in finding permanent affordable housing.

History:
AIDS Project Worcester was established in 1987. At that time there were 37 people in Worcester infected with HIV disease. By the end of 1987, 19 of those people were still alive. APW was first founded in Pakachoag Church in Auburn, at that time by the head of the faith community and people living with HIV disease and their family members. There were no services other than medical services and support groups. The first services provided other than medical was case management. Eventually, services expanded and individual needs were met through volunteer access and funding.
