"The Boys & Girls Club of Worcester's mission is to help youth, especially those from who need us most, to develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and community leaders through caring, professional staff who forge relationships with youth members and influence their ability to succeed in life"
Description:
The Boys & Girls Club of Worcester is a youth development organization that operates programs in the following core areas: The Arts; Character & Leadership Development; Education & Career Development; Health & Life Skills and Sports, Fitness & Recreation. Boys & Girls Club programs are unique because:
- Programs are offered daily - An open door policy insures that the Club is open to all members at any time during our hours of operation.
- Club facilities exist exclusively for youth - Members do not have to compete with adults or other groups for programs.
- Clubs provide full time professional youth development staff supplemented by part time workers and volunteers.
- Fees are kept low - There is no requirement of parent involvement so that all youth can participate in Club programs. Year round membership at the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester is $10 a year.
- No proof of good character is required - The Club helps and guides young people who may be in danger of acquiring, or who may already have acquired, unacceptable habits and attitudes, as well as those of good character.
- Club programs are guidance-oriented - Clubs emphasize values inherent in the relationships between young people, their peers and adult leaders. The Club helps youth make appropriate choices.
History:
The Boys & Girls Club of Worcester was established in 1889 as a Boys Club. The Main South Clubhouse opened in 2006. The Great Brook Valley Clubhouse began serving youth in 1993 and the Plumley Village Clubhouse in 2001. We are one of over 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs in the country, a part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
