The mission of the Ann Arbor YMCA is to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that provide healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Description:
The Ann Arbor YMCA is a non-profit membership association of men, women and children of all ages, abilities, incomes, races and religions. We are dedicated to helping individuals and families build healthy spirits, minds and bodies. Our programs promote member engagement, healthy lifestyles and community involvement. We offer full-time child care for ages 2 1/2 to 5 years, and after school programs for youth ages K-4th grade and teens grades 5-8. We offer a wide range of summer day camps for youth ages 5-16 and Camp Al-Gon-Quian, our residential camp for youth ages 8-16. The Ann Arbor YMCA also offers civic education, community service and job skills training programs for teens. We offer year-round programs for people of all ages, including aquatics, health & fitness, personal training, yoga, gymnastics, dance, martial ways, youth and adult sports leagues and fencing. Through our annual Strong Kids Campaign, the YMCA raises scholarship funds that enable all members of the community to participate in programs and activities at the YMCA. Applications for financial assistance are available at our membership desk.

History:
The first Ann Arbor YMCA was established in 1858 by students at the University of Michigan. It was the second YMCA in the state of Michigan, after the Detroit YMCA. In December 1892, the present YMCA organization was created. The Ann Arbor YWCA was established in 1895. The YMCA and YWCA merged in 1957; the two organizations became what we now know as the Ann Arbor YMCA in 1972. In 1997, the Board of Directors recognized the need for the Ann Arbor YMCA facility to expand and better meet the needs of people in our community.
In 2000, the Ann Arbor YMCA began the process of acquiring a site upon which to build a new facility.
On April 1, 2002, the Ann Arbor YMCA purchased our new building site at 400 West Washington in downtown Ann Arbor. On April 1, 2005, the new Ann Arbor YMCA officially opened.
